BELI vine binding tool

·       Version with normal grip, still being manufactured in the original form.

·       Version with a narrower grip, in production since March 1997 and distinguished by a 1 beside the BELI Binder logo on the switch grip. The number one is also applied to the packaging by felt pen. The narrower grip was developed at the suggestion of customers (particularly women, who often have smaller hands). The opening at the end of the two red grips is approx. 12 mm narrower in this tool. This version is very popular with both men and women.

·       Weight of the binding tool with a full wire spool: approx. 460 gramms.

·       The binding tool can be used with bare hands or with gloves to protect the hands against cold or dirt.

·       The tool is easy to handle and can also be used in wet weather.

·       The working time to bind one hectare, assuming 4,500 vines with 2 shoots per vine = 9,000 bindings is approx. 16 hours.

·       No strength is required to operate the binding tool.

·       Fatigue-free work due to the relaxed working posture.

·       An important feature which becomes apparent on pruning, is that it is no longer necessary to cut open the shoot binding as is the case with other binding materials. This saves two shear cuts per vine and the blades are subject to less wear because no wire or metal has to be cut.

·       The Beli binding tool is also used by many customers to tack the slightly twisted catch wires together between the supporting stakes. The advantage here is that the binding is applied with approx. 8 - 10 cm distance between the two wires. This distance, which is only possible with the Beli vine binding tool, means that the leaves are not pressed so close together in this area. If the leaves are pressed closely together in this area, ventilation is poor and this can result in hindered growth and disease.
The binding can be released by jerking the catch wire.

    BELI binding wire for the BELI vine binding tool

·       The binding wire is a special wire which is lightly galvanised to prevent it from rusting the tensioning wire so that the winegrower is not left with totally rusted wires in his vineyard after a few years. As winegrowers know, the young shoots scrape against rusty tensioning wires when blown by the wind and this can lead to breakages in the following year.

·       The binding material (special wire) is of iron which is an environmentally friendly material as, in contrast to plastics, it will rot into the ground after about a year. Think of a garden fence of iron were everything eventually disappears completely due to oxidisation.

·       The Beli binding wire is available as standard in 0.40 mm thickness. There are also stronger Beli binding wires of 0.45 mm and 0.50 mm with the corresponding thickness marked on the pack. The 0.45 mm Beli binding wire is increasingly used in windy areas, for rusty tensioning wires or for grape varieties which produce a heavy crop. Beli binding wire with 0.50 mm thickness is rarely used.
Attention: due to the greater thickness, the Beli wire spools with stronger wire do not hold a full 80 metres.

·       A Beli wire spool contains approx. 80 metres of binding wire. One wire spool is enough for approx. 800 - 1,000 bindings.

·       When purchasing binding material for the Beli wine binding tool, always make sure that the yellow Beli sticker from the Seibert company is on the pack as it is only original Beli vine binding wire with this sticker. As many customers are already aware, some dealers are now offering cheaper wire of a lower quality. This can have a negative influence on the function and on the wear of the Beli vine binding device.
From experience I know of examples where customers complained about the Beli vine binding tool because it would not function. In the presence of the customer I was able to immediately establish that the wire used was not Beli binding wire. The customer was not willing to accept this. I put an original Beli wire spool in the binding tool and it again functioned perfectly.
In this case the customer did not complain about the low quality of the binding wire as he was not aware of this, but about the Beli binding tool.
